EXPERIENCE TYPE: Farm Day

 

 

Our little organic farm sits amidst cloud kissed mountains at a top of a hill, at a height of 600 ft above sea level, with a magnificent, panoramic view of the Messinian Gulf, Mt. Taygetos and pictorial small villages. After  your pick-up from the meeting point,

 

we walk through narrow streets, olive groves and vineyards to arrive at the farm.

 

A warm welcome to our farm, a little prayer in our chapel if you wish, before staring the day’s activities. We’ll attend to the farm animals, collect eggs and gather organic fruit, vegetables & herbs in order to prepare a yummy traditional meal, during the preparation of which you will be given a Greek cooking lesson. Whilst learning about cooking, you will also taste a ‘meze’, a Greek appetizer with ouzo.  You will learn how to fire up a wood burning oven so that we can roast our food.

 

Whilst we are waiting for lunch to cook, you can enjoy a cycling or walking tour around the olive groves & vineyards. We can visit a branch of the Mt. Athos Byzantine Monastery, see the secret school from the Ottoman era or we can go on a discovery walk through the narrow streets of the village.

 

Upon your return to the farm you will be greeted by the delicious aromas of the food waiting for you. We set the table for an authentic Greek lunch consisting of, the food we have prepared, a Greek salad made with the vegetables we collected, local feta, olives & olive oil from our farm, along with a selection of local delicatessen.  There is plenty of Greek wine to accompany our lunch, along with Greek music & dancing.

 

You will learn how to make and enjoy a Greek coffee before the afternoon activities start. Depending on the season you can help with various seasonal farm work like: grape harvesting, wine making, orange & olive harvesting, extracting olive oil, smoking local ham and sausages, harvesting honey, masonry, basket making, picking herbs & edible wild greens. Our young visitors can enjoy archery and other games.

 

If you wish you can plant your own olive tree in our farm and produce your own extra virgin olive oil which we can send to your home in 4 to 5 years time. We will take good care of your tree.

 

You will be given the opportunity to taste our farm products like fresh fruit, dried fruit, vegetables, eggs, honey, olives, olive oil, ham, jams and desserts – all available for purchase if you wish either to take with you or to have sent to your home.

 

Goodbye with smiles and some small complimentary gifts, and we will return to the initial meeting point.

 

 

 

Additional Information:

We suggest you have the following items with you: sun hat, sunglasses, comfortable clothes, a pullover or a long-sleeved shirt or jacket and shoe with flat soles. Don’t forget your favorite music and your camera
